Ashura Observed with Religious Zeal in IOK

Srinagar, October 02 (Kashmir Voice): In occupied Kashmir, amid curfew-like restrictions, Aashura was observed with religious zeal and fervor across the territory on Sunday.
According to media sources, thousands of people defied restrictions in Shia-dominated areas, particularly in Zadibal area of Srinagar, and took out processions to mourn the martyrs of Karbala. People from various areas of arrived in Zadibal in small groups despite the restrictions.
The authorities had imposed restrictions in areas under the jurisdiction of 13 police stations. The areas included Karan Nagar, Shaheed Gunj, Batamaloo, Shergari, Maisuma, Kothibagh, Kralkhud, Ram Munshi Bagh, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Khanyar, Maharaj Gunj and Safakadal. All shops and business establishments were closed, while traffic movement was off the road. Concertina wires and police vehicles were placed at all routes leading towards Zadibal. Earlier in the day, an attempt to take out a procession in Lal Chowk area was foiled by police. The mourners were cane-charged.
In Ganderbal, hundreds of Shia mourners took out the Ashura procession at three separate places — Dub, Balti Kullan and Sarbal. Ashura was also observed in Badgam district. In Magam, the main procession was taken out from Malbuchan and it culminated at Imam Bargah Ahmadpora. In Budgam town, the main procession was taken out from Mirgund. After passing through its traditional route, it ended at Imam Bargah Budgam. In Baramulla, a large procession was taken out in Sultanpora area of Pattan. The procession started from Imam Bargah Sultanpora and concluded at the same place. Rich and glorious tributes were paid to Hazrat Imam Hussein (RA) and his companions at Ali Nagar Kunfer in Chanderkote. Largely attended Ashura processions were also taken out in Poonch Mandi and Mendhar areas. People from different villages of Poonch took part in the rallies. In Leh, thousands of Muslims observed Ashura by carrying out mourning rituals during a procession which commenced from Imamia Jama Masjid Chukey Rantak and after passing through various markets culminated at Imam Barga in the area.
