Protests in Srinagar against Braid Chopping Incidents

Srinagar, October 02 (Kashmir Voice): In occupied Kashmir, massive protests rocked Batamaloo area of Srinagar after a woman complained that unknown persons barged into her house and chopped off her braid.
According to media sources, confirming the incident, Station House Officer Batamaloo, Pervez Ahmed, said that the victim family showed the portion of the braid that had been cut. “We have registered a case and investigations have been taken up,” he told media. In another incident, the braid of a young woman was also cut at Zainapora in Shopian. People hit the streets in protest and urged the police to nab the culprits. “Some unknown persons entered a house and poured some spray at the face of the victim woman, and cut her braid and fled,” the protestors said. With this braid chopping incident reported in Nowgam area of Srinagar, the panic has now spread across the Valley. In some areas, terrified people are maintaining vigil throughout night as a preventive measure while many girls and women couldn’t sleep for many days. Insha, a college student from Padshahi Bagh, told media that she had suffered nightmares ever since the incidents started occurring in Kashmir. “Last night was the worst so far as I couldn’t sleep due to fear of braid choppers as Nowgam is just a few kilometers away from my home,” she said. Similar complaints have been expressed by Mymona Gani, a housewife from BK Pora.“I locked all windows and doors last night after the incidents of braid chopping reached Budgam some days ago,” she said. Mymona said the family had been concerned about their daughters who usually come late from tuition. “This is very disturbing situation due to mystery shrouding the incidents,” she said. KASHMIR VOICE
