World Urged To Help In Settlement of Kashmir Dispute

Brussels, October 10 (Kashmir Voice): Speakers of a conference in connection with the Kashmir EU-Week at the European Parliament in Brussels urged the international community to help in peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
According to media sources, the conference titled “What Can the European Parliament Do about the Situation in Kashmir?” was organized by the Kashmir Council European Union (KCEU) and moderated by former Ambassador of EU, Mr Anthony Crasner. Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister, Raja Farooq Haider; MEP Dr Sajjad Karim; AJK Senior Minister Chaudhary Tariq Farooq; KCEU Chairman, Ali Raza Syed; MEP Wajid Khan; AJK MLA, Raja Javed Iqbal and others addressed the conference. MEP Sajjad Karim is also host of the Kashmir EU-Week in the European Parliament for many years. The AJK Prime Minister, Raja Farooq Haider Khan, in his address said, protection of rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir specially the right of self-determination is legal obligation of international community specially the UN. The International community must stop India from committing atrocities on the Kashmiris, he said. He also urged the EU to pay immediate attention on human rights of Kashmiris instead of trade with India. “We are deprived of right to self-determination and international community, specially the EU, should help us in order to get freedom from Indian occupation,” he added. The AJK Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of KCEU for highlighting the Kashmir CAUSE in Europe. AJK Senior Minister, Chaudhary Tariq Farooq, said bilateralism does not work between India and Pakistan. So, he added, international community must interfere and help in an acceptable resolution of the Kashmir dispute under the UN resolutions. Appreciating the KCEU KCEU Chairman Ali Raza Syed suggested close cooperation among the Kashmiri diaspora in order to raise the Kashmir dispute at the international level more effectively. He said, the diaspora has ability to act as a bridge between international community and Kashmiris specially in making the connection of people suffering from Indian brutalities with the outside world. Referring to free trade agreement between India and EU, the MEP from UK Wajid Khan said, EU should give priority to human right instead of trade and money. He also called international community to fulfill its promises under the UN resolutions about granting the right to self-determination to the Kashmiris. Daniel Caron, the former member of Brussels Parliament, suggested enhanced exchange of delegations between EU and Kashmir. He said, frequent visits of Kashmiri figures to the EU and EU’s officials and other important figures to Kashmir would help in better understanding among the Europeans about the Kashmir problem.
MLA for Overseas in AJK’s Assembly Raja Javed Iqbal also demanded of the EU to make efforts to stop human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
Researcher and Journalist Syed Sibtain Shah, Tariq Butt and Atiq-ur-Rehman from UK, Kent Roy and others also spoke on the occasion.Opening of a photo exhibition at the EU Parliament was also part of Kashmir EU Week’s programmes which would continue till 12th November. The photos exhibition on Kashmir which was inaugurated by the AJK Prime Minister would be visited by the masses in next ten days. Briefing on the occasion, the KCEU Chairman Ali Raza Syed said, the photographs depicting Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir and displayed in the exhibition were produced by a noted French photographer, Cédric Gerbehaye.
