Sheikh Abdul Aziz Remembered On Eve of His Anniversary

Srinagar, August 10 (Kashmir Voice): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have paid glowing tributes to prominent martyred Hurriyat leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz, on the eve of his martyrdom anniversary.
According to media sources, Sheikh Abdul Aziz was shot dead by the Indian troops on 11th August, 2008, while he was leading a procession from Srinagar to the Line of Control against the economic blockade of the Kashmir Valley by Hindu extremists of Jammu. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference General Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi, in a statement in Srinagar paying homage to Sheikh Abdul Aziz praised him for his commitment and contributions towards the freedom struggle of Kashmir. A spokesman of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat forum in a statement in Srinagar said that Sheikh Abdul Aziz stood like a rock on his convictions and throughout his life fought for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. He said that Sheikh Aziz worked tirelessly shoulder to shoulder with other leaders. “The mission of Sheikh Aziz and all others who have sacrificed their lives is etched in our consciousness and will never be compromised upon,” he added. The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, in his statement in Srinagar said, “Sheikh Aziz occupies unique distinction and position in the ongoing freedom struggle for his contributions towards it during his life. The commitment shown by him for the freedom struggle was exemplary,” he said. Hurriyat leaders, Zafar Akbar Butt, Farida Bahenji, Muhammad Yasin Attai, Abdul Aziz Dar alias General Musa, in their statements in Srinagar paying rich tributes to Sheikh Aziz said that he offered unprecedented and unparalleled sacrifice of life for a great cause and his services and contribution for the Kashmir cause would always be remembered. Hurriyat leaders, Imtiaz Ahmed Reshi, Shakeel-ur-Rehman, Master Muhammad Maqbool, Ghulam Muhammad Mir and Tahoor Siddiqi in a meeting in Srinagar eulogized the sacrifices of Sheikh Abdul Aziz and 72 other martyrs who laid down their lives during the mass uprising in 2008.
