Killing of Pulwama Civilian in Troops’ Firing Widely Denounced

Srinagar, September 04 (Kashmir Voice): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have strongly condemned the killing of a civilian, Fayaz Ahmed Wani, in the firing of Indian troops during a cordon and search operation (CASO) at Chew Kalan in Pulwama district on Monday.
According to media sources, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Kashmir is a police state where killing of innocent people is normal for the Indian forces.” He said that Pulwama witnessed yet another bloodbath which was highly condemnable. He said, “The ongoing crackdown and the killing spree in entire Kashmir especially in the southern districts is a well-though-out policy of the Indian state. 18 villages in Pulwama were besieged by the forces and people were beaten up. During this crackdown, the troops opened fire on civilians killing one Fayaz Ahmed Wani. ” He expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. The Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement termed the killing of Fayaz Ahmed Wani as an inhuman act and the worst form of state terrorism. “The cordon and search operations (CASOs) are the reason for innocent deaths and destruction across South Kashmir,” the forum said and added that the launch of a sudden CASO in 18 villages of Pulwama district was a ploy to instill fear among the local population to force people into submission. The Jamaat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir in a statement appealed to the international and local human rights bodies to take strong cognizance of the civilian killings and other human rights violations committed by the Indian forces in the occupied territory. The Kashmir High Court Bar Association in a statement denouncing the the killing said, “The worst kind of oppression has been let loose by the Indian forces in Kashmir, which is aimed at intimidating, threatening and harassing innocent people.” Hurriyat leaders and organizations including Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Javaid Ahmed Mir, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Zafar Akbar Butt, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League and the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front-R in their separate statements also strongly denounced the killing of Fayaz Ahmed Wani and injuring of many other youth during CASOs in Pulwama district.
