Solidarity Expressed With Journalist Aasif in IOK

Srinagar, September 13 (Kashmir Voice): In occupied Kashmir, the Kashmir Journalists Association (KJA) held a protest rally at Lal Chowk in Srinagar to express solidarity with the illegally detained journalist, Aasif Sultan.
According to media sources, the KJA members gathered at the Press Enclave, held a sit-in and later marched to Aabi Guzar to press for immediate release of Aasif Sultan presently lodged at Central Jail, Srinagar. The journalist body said that the international journalist and human rights bodies such as IFJ, CPJ, RSF and Amnesty International have also expressed concern over the deteriorating press freedom in the territory. “Police authorities have been asking editors/reporters to explain their stories and the motive thereof. We appeal to Governor Satya Pal Malik as well as Indian Home Minister, Rajnath Singh to intervene to stop harassment of the journalist fraternity in the valley,” it said. The KJA said that two journalists were beaten up in north Kashmir the other day while performing their professional duties. KASHMIR VOICE
